JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING
WINTER SCHEDULE NOW WITH NON-STOP AIR SERVICE FROM 13 CITIES
(JACKSON HOLE, WY June 23, 2014)Following a successful winter season including a 10% increase in visitors through the JH Airport, record skiers days of 563,000 at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and a 10% increase in local sales tax collections, Jackson Hole Air Improvement Resources (JH AIR) is pleased to announce the strategic expansion of winter air service to 13 non-stop cities during the 2014-15 Winter Season.
“The JH AIR Board focused on increasing capacity during the early and late seasons (December 6 – 20 and March 21 – April 5),” stated Mike Gierau, Chair JH AIR. “We knew we were hitting capacity issues at holiday periods and peak weekends, both at the JH Airport and at local resorts and lodges, hence the preference to grow opportunity when our current infrastructure could absorb demand”.
New jet service will be provided by United Airlines from Washington Dulles. This will complement increased United service from Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. United service from Newark and Denver and Delta service from Los Angeles, Seattle, Salt Lake City and Minneapolis will remain the same year over year. Delta service from Atlanta will be slightly adjusted to better suit demand. American Airlines will continue their service from Dallas Fort Worth. The schedule details flights that will start earlier in December this year and the majority of routes that will be running through the end of the winter season until Easter Sunday, April 6th 2015.
“More and more people are coming to Wyoming to enjoy the world-class skiing, national parks and western way of life. I am pleased to see this expansion in air service because it reflects the increasing desire to visit Wyoming for recreation and business purposes. These new flights make Wyoming more accessible to travelers in the U.S. and travelers from abroad, and we welcome every guest,” Governor Matt Mead said.
“We are very excited to add Washington Dulles non-stop to our route map for 2014-15,” continued Gierau. “And of course the Chicago, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles capacity increases are happening at a time when Jackson Hole is experiencing increased demand from Australia and New Zealand as well as Mexico and South America. Having a well-timed, 1-stop connection in both directions from these countries as well as London, England allows for convenient travel for our visitors from all over the world,” concluded Gierau.
“Our market research (captured as guests depart through the JH Airport) showed a $10 million increase in local expenditures, with guests staying in Jackson and Teton Village in equal numbers. Skiing continues to be the primary motivator for a winter vacation, but the quality of the dining and shopping experience, the national parks and the friendly western community, all factored in to the significant increase in returning visitors,” stated Jerry Blann, President JH Airport Board. “According to the research, the JH Airport experience has improved exponentially – and we can only assume once the airport construction is completed (October 2014), the guest experience will better reflect the extraordinary backdrop of Grand Teton National Park”.
We look forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a world-class resort destination, gateway to the Nation’s first National Park (Yellowstone), and the splendor of Grand Teton National Park”, concluded Gierau.
